Metalwork and Jewellery
Bachelor of Visual Art
Three year program
This is the only degree-level art course specializing in this field available in Norway. The core subjects are Jewellery, Metalwork and Silversmithing. The course is based on theory and methods of visual arts as well as a profound knowledge of form, materials and techniques. Basic technical instruction is followed by a broad range of specialized skills such as casting, forging, welding, stone setting and patination, amongst other related metalworking techniques.
Experimental and investigative work are an essential part of the programme, allowing the student the confidence and ease to use the workshop space as a laboratory for the creation and development of ideas.
The history and the position of the Metalwork field in relation to the wider Art History is one of the many themes of discussion that are looked upon during the school year.
The possibility for student exchange with other Art institutions around the world is encouraged and invited teachers and lecturers help make the course dynamic, vibrant and international.
Ongoing discussions on purposes, aims, meanings and aesthetic representations, are part of the conceptual background which will provide the tools and allow the student to solidly build the necessary autonomy as Artists and responsible individuals in Society.
